Personal communication please be careful: casual
Which mantra is most offensive?
The answer for Americans is — casually.
A recent survey by Marist University of New York conducted a telephone interview with adult citizens and voted for the most offensive words for Americans. The word “anywhere” (anywhere) topped the list with 47% of votes.
Coincidentally, in the daily life of Chinese people, it is not difficult to find that the word “any casual” is also very unpopular.
Nearly five adults resent “casually” in spoken English, “whatever” means “casually, it doesn’t matter”, and its usage has cross-cultural similarities with the Chinese use of “casually”.
For example, if someone asks you whether you like apples or bananas, if you do n’t have any particular hobbies, you can say “What!
Sometimes when two people disagree, one side may end the conversion with the word “anything you say.”
Mary Azoli, the head of the media department at the University of Marist, analyzed that although “any casual” is a seemingly free language, it reveals a sense of desert and even patience.
It has a special meaning casually. “In interpersonal communication, the control of initiative is appropriate to alternate at any time.
“Casually” is to give the initiative to the other party.
“Yang Dong, an associate professor at the School of Psychology at Southwest University, explained.
Specifically, the first meaning of “any casual” is to express coping and willingness to obey the other party’s intention; the second meaning is to express boredom, so to end the personality as soon as possible by surrendering the initiative; the third meaning is to be dissatisfiedOr disagree, but think that there is no necessary or bargaining chip for the other party, so simply abstain; the fourth type may be unwilling to use their brains and irresponsible shirk.
”People are disgusted with ‘casual’ because this society advocates communication, expressing opinions and teamwork, and people who often say ‘casual’ make people feel unwilling to cooperate with others, work hard and have no opinion.
“Yang Dong explained,” whether in the United States or China, whether in life or work, such an image is not welcome.
“Give” a casual stand-in. So how do you express the intention of transferring initiative without incurring objection?
For two common occasions, Yang Dong made suggestions.
“What do you want to eat?
“In the face of hospitality, be polite and considerate.
If your host asks you this way, it is best to answer “You are familiar with this restaurant, and you are right.”
If you are a loved one, you can answer “Don’t be too tired, just do something simple”, “I love what you do.”
What do you think we should do / what do you think I should choose?
When someone invites you to participate in a decision, you need to show that you are really well thought out.
If a colleague, friend, or partner asks you, you can make an analysis and then be sure; if the leader asks you, you can say, “You are the authority in this respect, and you are definitely right.”
”Of course, if you have your own opinion and you ca n’t point it out directly, you can say: ‘I think this solution is okay . I think it would be better to add xxx . But this is just my opinion, noKnowing it is right is for your reference. Do n’t care if you make a mistake.
“” Yang Dong said.
